Travel insurance
Protect Yourself Overseas:
Why You Should Pack Travel Insurance!

For many of us, holiday insurance is something we never forget to take on holiday. For others, vacation insurance is the last thing on our minds. After all, there’s nothing worse than having to think about paying money for insurance protection when we travel overseas; all we really want to do is to look forward to our holiday and not to think about what might go wrong!

But, the fact is that a travel insurance policy could make the difference between your having a great time when you travel abroad or a nightmare! A holiday insurance policy need not cost that much, but it gives you all kinds of protection in case something goes wrong. So, why do you need vacation insurance?

Protection against common holiday problems

A travel insurance policy will give you different kinds of coverage just in case something adverse happens when you are on holiday. You may think that nothing bad will happen, but the fact is that you cannot guarantee that you won’t come across a problem. With travel insurance, however, at least you’ll be looked after. So, think about what would happen if:

  • You fell ill or had an accident.  You simply will not get free medical treatment elsewhere in the world. With holiday insurance, at least your medical costs will be covered. Even a routine medical appointment and a few tests in some countries can run into hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

  • You lost your luggage.  Baggage handlers at airports are notorious for losing and mis-directing luggage. This may seem like a small thing, but losing your suitcase can easily ruin your holiday. Vacation insurance will help cover you financially, so that you can buy some essentials to keep you going until your luggage turns up, or if it vanishes for good, the holiday insurance will help cover the costs involved in replacing the contents.

  • You get mugged.  What would you do if you got mugged on holiday and lost your cash and credit cards? If you were insured, you’d get help to get your money back. If you were not insured you’d be on your own.

  • You can’t travel overseas.  If you have to cancel your holiday because you (or a close family member) fall ill then a travel insurance policy will help you get back the cost of your holiday. Without a vacation insurance policy, you’ll not get your money back.

The fact is that travel insurance can give you protection against these and many other common problems that may occur when you travel overseas. Of course, you will hopefully have a stress and problem free holiday but, with holiday insurance in place, you’ll at least have peace of mind and some financial protection if something does go wrong.

And, keep in mind that vacation insurance is not expensive in the great scheme of things; it is possible to arrange coverage for a small sum for a single holiday or to pay a little extra for annual travel insurance. So, if you are planning on taking some time (however long or short) to travel overseas, then think hard about taking a holiday insurance or vacation insurance policy with you.  It could be the most useful thing you pack!
