How to reduce car insurance premiums
How to Reduce Car Insurance Premiums

For many US consumers, getting the best car insurance deal is simply a question of renewing their old policies with the same insurance company. Or, if they are looking for a new policy then they’ll go with the deal that looks the cheapest when they do a quick quotes search. But, you can actually get lower insurance premiums if you know how to ‘talk the talk’ when you ask for quotes. Learn how to do this and you could reduce car insurance premiums, and quite simply, find that you open doors to cheap car insurance.

The truth is that there are various ways to reduce car insurance premiums. Getting this right is simply a question of making insurance companies feel that you are less likely to make a claim than other people or that you have something to offer them so that they can give you lower insurance premiums. So, how can you ‘talk the talk’ to get cheap car insurance?

Give the insurance company some peace of mind

The less of a risk you (and your car!) appear to be to an insurer, the less it will charge you. So, think about what you have or can do that will make you seem like a good bet from the insurer’s perspective. For example:

  • Install alarms and other security devices to make it less easy for the car to get stolen/damaged.

  • If you have a garage, then use it and tell the insurance company that you do.

  • Don’t be afraid to blow your own trumpet if you have something good to say that makes you look like a safe bet. Drivers with an advanced driving qualification may get lower insurance premiums as may drivers over the age of 50 and people with a lot of years of no claims bonuses. If you don’t use your car much then ask for a low mileage rate.

Give the insurance company some incentive

Another good way of getting cheap car insurance is to work with the insurance company so that you both end up in a win-win situation. You can reduce car insurance premiums by doing this. For example:

  • If you own more than one vehicle then ask for a group insurance cost. The insurer will get more than one premium and it may offer you preferential rates so you’ll save money too.

  • Look for insurance companies that offer different types of insurance policies - i.e. building and contents and car insurance. It may be that your insurer cuts your costs if you take up more than one kind of policy with it.

  • The more an insurer thinks it will have to pay out in a claim, the more it charges for its premiums. So, think about the essential policy elements that you need and lose the ones that you don’t. For example, waiving the right to a courtesy car could save you money as could opting for a higher deductible.

If you are looking to reduce car insurance premiums, then the easiest way to achieve this is to know what will push the right buttons with any car insurance company. Lower insurance premiums on cheap car insurance are often given to vehicle owners who insurers believe will be least likely to make a claim or to cost the insurer a lot of money in the event of a claim. So, in order to reduce car insurance premiums you will need to show why you should be given lower insurance premiums and a cheap car insurance policy.
